What's New With This Release
This first release of Avaya one-X Quick Edition delivers customizable business class communication features including voice mail, conferencing, and auto-attendant. Distributing the system intelligence to the telephone sets provides immediate business continuity. The simple design enables set by set scalability and investment protection. User benefits are clear - enhanced productivity, simple growth, easy administration, and low total cost of ownership.

Business Benefits
  • Simplicity - Avaya one-X Quick Edition is simple to set up, configure and use. Adding additional phones is as simple as connecting them to the network. This built in simplicity reduces the need for technical onsite assistance, facilitates rapid installation and reduces costs.
  • Low Total Cost of Ownership - With no centralized equipment to purchase set up or manage, the total cost of ownership of an Avaya one-X Quick Edition solution is lowered. As your needs grow, additional phones can be simply added to the network.
  • Business Continuity – SIP based Peer to Peer eliminates single point of telephony failure, Each phone automatically back up each others features including voicemail, so if one telephone fails the others continue to work, providing embedded fail-over and business continuity.
  • Investment Protection – Avaya one-X Quick Edition uses the 4600 IP telephones platform. Should your needs change Avaya will help you migrate to other solutions, keep your phones, change the software, and install Communication Manager / Gateway as your business needs demand.

With peer to peer technology, individual telephones participate in the system functions previously performed by a centralized server. By redistributing these applications and functions out to the handset, costs are reduced and system reliability is increased as a single point of failure is eliminated. All is this is achieved with no significant additional performance burden on the network.

Avaya one-X™ Quick Edition enables small businesses and small branches of enterprises to enjoy significant savings on acquisition and installation. Best of all Avaya one-X Quick Edition grows with the needs of your business, as you add employees, you add additional telephones – it’s that simple.
Each Avaya one-X Quick Edition IP Telephone has its own software and system backup data, so if one telephone is disconnected from the network the others continue to work, providing embedded fail-over and business continuity. For example, incoming calls continue to be forwarded according to the disconnected telephone's call-forwarding rules and voicemail messages can be collected from any Quick Edition IP Telephone. For connection to the PSTN, Avaya also provides a peer to peer enabled gateway allowing connectivity to non-IP networks.

Administration is also easy. A standard secure web browser enables users or system administrators to manage the phones either locally or remotely. You can access, manage, and upgrade system-wide features through web-based administration interface. All system changes and updates are communicated to the other Avaya one-X Quick Edition IP Telephones and PSTN Gateway on the network automatically. Password authentication ensures that only authorized users can access system-wide configuration settings.

The standards-based Avaya 4600 Series IP Telephones bring the rich features and functions of Avaya Communication Manager directly to the desktop, while also supporting desktop applications above and beyond telephony. Several models are available, ranging from entry-level IP telephones to those built specifically for demanding contact center environments, to sophisticated color-display screenphones. The 4600 Series Telephones can be deployed in traditional office environments as well as remotely – via an integrated VPN client and are easily configured to support both the H.323 protocol as well as SIP.

What's New With This Release
Release 2.3 provides additional value and capabilities to Avaya IP phones in conjunction with Avaya Communication Manager Release 3.0.1:

Signal Channel Encryption. For Communication Manager 3.0.1 installations, this feature encrypts the signaling channel to the 4600 series IP telephone. For several years, Avaya has provided audio channel or voice path encryption. By adding protection for the signaling channel (call setup, alerting, call conference, hold… ) Avaya offers best in class security for each IP telephone endpoint. Also, with this feature, end users are now able to change their system password via a feature access code.

Unnamed Registration. Also in conjunction with Communication Manager 3.0.1 this enhancement allows for unregistered telephones (meaning IP phones without an active extension and password) to receive basic class of service capabilities as defined by an administrator. Examples might include support for calling internal extensions only, or just to the building switchboard or e911 calls. This allows for enhanced functionality for phones in common areas as well as those not currently in use. R2.3 (h.323) telephone firmware is supported on the 4610SW, 4620SW, 4621SW, 4622SW IP Telephones.
